The DKN has compiled a statement entitled 'Sustainability research more urgent than ever!' and presented the paper at the conference Advancing Sustainable Development: Sustainability Science Summit 2025. Against the backdrop of the upcoming negotiations after the German federal government elections and amidst current national and international political developments, the paper stresses five main points:

1. Scientifically sound analysis and fact-based action are needed

2. Excellent science needs secured funding

3. Impactful sustainability science needs support and coordination

4. Interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research and problem-solving are essential

5. Free democracies need to base their decisions on facts and science – not on fake news and conspiracy theories

The DKN invites interested parties to sign the statement as well. You can find the statement (in German) for download, the opportunity to sign by 3 March 2025, as well as a list of previous signatures here.
