Dr Andreas Villwock has been working as a project scientist in the EU project ClimatEurope2 since December 2022. The project is about the standardisation of climate services in Europe.

Andreas Villwock studied meteorology at the University of Hamburg and did his doctorate at the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology on ENSO-induced variability in the Indian Ocean. His scientific work focused on the understanding and predictability of natural climate variability, especially in the tropics. From 1996, he worked for several years in the project office of the international climate research programme CLIVAR (Climate Variability and Predictability) within the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP). In 2004 he moved to the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences (since 2012 GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel) and was head of public relations.

His special interest is on the communication and transfer of scientific results to different stakeholder groups. In this context, he is particularly interested in the development of customised and user-oriented climate services.
