Leonie Grau started working as a PhD student in August 2024. Her work is part of the project Urbanline within the HICCS-cluster STORYLINE, a collaboration between GERICS and the university of Hamburg. Her focus is on developing localized climate projections for the city of Constance, considering microclimatic variations and the specific setting of an urban environment using the LES model PALM-4U. Furthermore, she will investigate how these projections provide insights into specific climate impacts and city hot spots of urban heat islands.

Leonie obtained a B.Sc. in Geography and Meteorology/Climatology at the University of Freiburg followed by a master's degree in environmental sciences. In her master’s thesis she assessed the effect of different distance regulations on the repowering potential of wind energy in Germany. After her studies, she worked as a geoinformatics specialist for a local network operator company in southern Baden-Württemberg.
