Maria Caballero-Espejo has been a PhD student at GERICS since November 2023. Her work is part of the project “Uncertain Water Resources under Global Change” (UwaRes), where she focuses on investigating the interactions between regional climate systems and human water use under climate change scenarios. The aim is to assess water availability in Europe through coupled Pseudo Global Warming simulations.

Maria is a meteorologist who completed her Master's degree in Integrated Climate System Science at the University of Hamburg in 2019. In her Master's thesis, she focused on Ecosystem-based Adaptation to future precipitation impacts in Peru during Coastal-El Niño events. Afterwards, she worked at the Ministry of Environment of Peru coordinating and carrying out technical monitoring of scientific information related to the climate system, climate variability and climate change, for its integration and dissemination in the processes and instruments of territorial planning in the field of Climate Adaptation at all levels and sectors of government. She also worked at the National Weather Service of Peru in weather forecasting and agrometeorology and led the climate modelling team.
